Keeping up with the Big Bear Bald Eagles

It was a joyous winter for two Bald Eagle parents in the San Bernardino National Forest as they welcomed two new chicks in early February. Thousands of viewers tuned in to the YouTube livestream provided by The Friends of Big Bear Valley and watched the little feathered balls enter the world for the first time.

According to the livestream video description link, the two eggs were laid in early January 2018. A little after a month, two new chicks hatched on February 11 and 12.

Protecting our Public Lands


The Trump administration announced on December 4 its plan to reduce the size of two Utah national monuments: Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante. Bears Ears would be reduced by 85% while Grand Staircase by 50%.

This is the largest reduction of national monument lands in American history.

Many outdoor recreation retailers, including Patagonia and REI, environmental conservationists and Native American tribes have spoken up about their disapproval of the plan.

“Today’s decision hurts the people who love these places. American enjoy our public lands in every part of the country, irrespective of politics.”
