Eco-friendly Summer Tips

Rejoice because today is the first day of summer! It’s finally to wear sundresses and shorts, and just enjoy the warm weather. Some of you may be planning for their long-awaited summer vacation or just spending time families and friends. However, summer can also be unbearable to some people who can’t stand the humidity and heat. Here are some eco-friendly tips to make your summer enjoyable for both you and the environment!

Set your A/C thermostat to a higher temperature

Stay cool and safe money! For the warmer summer months, it is recommend that households set their air conditioning to kick in at around 78 degrees Fahrenheit. Be sure to also close all blinds to keep all the cool air in and the warm air out. In the evening, turn off the air conditioning and open the window. The cool summer nights should be able to provide a good night’s sleep.

Take public transportation

Try to limit driving to places that you can opt to take public transportation to. Whether it’s the bus, train or maybe even your bicycle, cutting down on gas usage is better for both your wallet and the environment.

Use a BPA-free recyclable water bottle

Instead of drinking for single-use water bottles, invest in a BPA-free recyclable water bottle. You will save money from not having to buying water bottles constantly. You will also be helping the environment by keeping those plastic bottles out of the oceans and landfills.

Look for eco-friendly and non-toxic products

Did you know that there are some products that are actually both toxic to you and the environment? For example, some sunscreens are made of petroleum and don’t compose well in water. Even worse, some contain toxic chemicals that can clog your pores and damage your skin. Search for products that contain non-toxic ingredients and are also friendly on the environment.
