Start Your 2018 the GREEN Way!

The new year is just around the corner. Have you thought about the changes you want to make in 2018? Looking to lead a more environmental-friendly, healthier life? Here are some new year’s resolutions to make your 2018 a greener one:

Switch to a reusable water bottle: Gallons of our limited oil is being used to create single-use water bottles that either end in up landfills or contaminate our oceans. Reusable water bottles made of glass or stainless steel can help reduce the amount of water bottles that are used and then disposed of.

Eat less meat (or at least better meat): The meat industry is notorious for being some of the biggest carbon emitters in the world. It also requires a lot of water; just one pound of beef takes about 1,800 gallons of water to produce whereas soybeans take just 216 gallons. Of course, it’s really hard to give up meat suddenly, so if you do eat it, remember to choose healthier options like grain- or grass-fed or pastured-raised meats.

Eat home cooked meals more often: Who doesn’t like a great home cooked meal? Making meals at home will not only help the environment by cutting resources need such as energy, oil and water, but it will also be a huge relief on your wallet. Try meal prepping for the week or discover new recipes.

Find alternatives to paper towels: As convenient as they may be, paper towels are definitely one of the biggest trash source in the kitchen. Instead of using them for everything, try finding some reusable options such as sponges or washable cloths.

Drive less, walk (or carpool) more: Help reduce pollution and save gas money by finding other modes of getting to your destination. Walk to the grocery store that is down the street. Carpool with friends to that concert. Take public transportation into the city. There are many ways to get to where you need to go without your car.

Reduce, reuse and recycle: These three words are the foundation of green living. By reducing waste, reusing products and recycling and repurposing items, you can help the planet that much more.

We wish you and your families a happy new year! See you in 2018!
